How did you do that?
Its the question I get over and over again….How did you teach your horse that? Sometimes I think my ponies are exceptional and that they learn simply by watching – which may be true to some extent – but the truth is my horses learn because they trust me, and they want to learn.
It may help if I start from the very beginning….
It all started in 2003 when I was given Chincoteague Minnow as a free lease to be used as my new mounted games pony (as I had just retired my 20 something Arab/Welsh cross).

Sunshine Days
Since spring is now officially here Chincoteague Minnow has been able to get back into the swing of painting. Created on March 8, 2009 (the day of my 25th Birthday) was “Sunshine Over Assateague”. This painting is one of my favorites – and would be a great addition to any home. Check out the website for more information on purchasing this wonderful work of art.

Pony Penning 2009
Chincoteague Minnow will be attending Pony Penning Week 2009 from July 27 – July 31 at the Chincoteague Pony Centre. We’re currently working on an act (and lots of new tricks) to debut at the Pony Centre this year. So if you want to see a great show be sure to come watch Minnow as he will perform daily at 4pm and 8pm each night. He will even be auctioning off a painting during each show. So this will be your chance to own an original!

Iron Horse Farm
Construction has been underway at Iron Horse Farm – future site of the Ponies’ new home – all year. Its nearing its completion stage and everyone couldn’t be more excited. Our new facility means more room for the training of new tricks. We even hope to hold mounted games competitions in the future.

At A Circus Near You
This summer I plan to bring Minnow back to Chincoteague to perform at the Chincoteague Pony Centre. Last year he started the show by painting a portrait for the crowds as they arrived. Then later in the show he performed a jumble of his tricks to music and finished up by auctioning off the painting he created.
This year I wanted to try something a little different. Instead of having him perform just a jumble of tricks, I wanted to create a “skit” for him. I’m having trouble coming up with ideas though. So far I have two thoughts – Minnow decides to join the circus and creates an audition tape, and Minnow reads the book “Misty of Chincoteague” and thinks he can create his own book and be like Misty.

Any other suggestions are welcome!
